Growing up on a farm and
attending school in a small rural town, I had no opportunity to study
art until I reached adulthood. I didn’t know any artists and
didn’t think of myself as an artist. When I went to college I
took a few art classes because I wanted to learn how to do this. But
my mother was a teacher, and my grandmother was a teacher. So
what was I going to do besides major in Elementary Education? I
got a minor in Fine Arts.
I married young. My husband
became a physics professor. We moved around, so I took a few art
courses at each University where we lived. We were also raising
our family. After the children were grown I decided to make an
effort to paint and learn as much as I could. I usually paint
with watercolor or acrylics although I’ve sometimes used pastels or
colored pencils also.
